Imagine a backpack that can charge your iPhone when you walk. Trying to be an eco-friendly tree hugger? Buy one of these, and please tell me where you got it.

Talk about going green, imagine charging your iPhone or laptop with this backpack. As of now the kinetic charging backpack is being designed for the military, but the I’m sure we will see some variant for consumers. The pak is suspended on a rail that generates electricity as you walk/run/horse back ride etc. The power is stored on a litium ion battery which can later power standard usb devices. You can lock the rack so the pack stays still if your not trying to charge anything. About 8 watts of power can be generated when walking, and about 44 watts when running.

US is leading the way in terms of mobile data usage.

No related posts.

While China and India are well on their way to dominate the in Voice transmission, when its comes to mobile data, the good ol’ USA carriers are leading the charge, showing strong growth in terms of overall traffic and revenue. A lot of the growth in the US is a result of the availability of 3G services, simpler flate-rate data plans, and of course cheaper and alluring devices like the iPhone. Some interesting facts to come out of the report done by the GigaOm Pro Analyst Network include:

-Mobile data now accounts for 25% of total globa service revenue

-Verizon is the second-largest carrier in terms of mobile data, edging past China Mobile and closing in on NTT DoCoMo, which had revenues of $8B

-U.S. data revenues were $20.6B vs. $16B for Japan and $8.6B in China during the first 6 months of this year.

-The top 10 global wireless carriers now account for 63% of global mobile data revenue.

-Biggest mobile growth was registered by Verizon, AT&T, and Softbank. Two of those three companies sell the iPhone.

-Data revenue for the overall industry was up about 10% from the 2nd half of 2008. Showing that the current crazy for Smartphone is boosting mobile Internet usage.

A new research report from market research firm, Interpret, has discovered that despite being disadvantaged in the marketplace, Palm has managed to take a chunk of mindshare with the Pre. The report suggests that the Palm Pre is only number 2 to the iPhone 3GS iin this metric. The study looked at the convincing factors behind purchaser’s decisions about which smartphone to buy, narrowing the list down to 3 major components:

1. That the phone was indeed “smart”
2. That the phone was cool and hip
3. That the phone would make the user awesomely productive

Rating the most popular phones such as the BlackBerry Curve and Storm, G1, and iPhone (wheres Windows Mobile?), the report found that the iPhone and the Pre balanced the 3 factors in a way in which consumers accepted the higher price tags. Other smartphones, specifically the BlackBerrys were lopsided, offering more of one factor and less of the other.

Should Apple be worried about Palm? Nawww.

“Users connect iTrip to their iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 3.0, open the app, and are greeted with a large, simple display showing tuning controls and a SmartScan button, Griffin’s trademark technology that instantly locates the best available frequency.”
