Palm Pre gaining momentum, but still only 2nd to the iPhone in terms of public perception.
A new research report from market research firm, Interpret, has discovered that despite being disadvantaged in the marketplace, Palm has managed to take a chunk of mindshare with the Pre. The report suggests that the Palm Pre is only number 2 to the iPhone 3GS iin this metric. The study looked at the convincing factors behind purchaser’s decisions about which smartphone to buy, narrowing the list down to 3 major components:
1. That the phone was indeed “smart”
2. That the phone was cool and hip
3. That the phone would make the user awesomely productive
Rating the most popular phones such as the BlackBerry Curve and Storm, G1, and iPhone (wheres Windows Mobile?), the report found that the iPhone and the Pre balanced the 3 factors in a way in which consumers accepted the higher price tags. Other smartphones, specifically the BlackBerrys were lopsided, offering more of one factor and less of the other.
Should Apple be worried about Palm? Nawww.
